Is your child ready to begin school? It can be hard to prepare, especially if you are busy with work and other responsibilities. We offer 4 different classrooms, dividing students by age:
STEP AHEAD PRESCHOOL’S MISSION
Step Ahead is both owned and operated by director Lisa Carpenter, BA. The program was developed by the director, a certified West Virginia teacher. The program’s purpose is to offer both teacher-directed instruction and student-directed activities that foster creativity and age appropriate learning. The center believes that children learn through hands-on activities and creative play. Step Ahead Preschool believes in treating each child as an individual with his or her own interests and needs. Our philosophy is to provide a safe environment for all children, both physically and emotionally. A child that feels loved and safe will flourish in a preschool environment.
Our program includes art, music, story time, science, social studies, math, and education for children two to ten years of age. This includes before and after care for Tuscarora Elementary and Eagle School Intermediate. We also offer before and after school care for the children enrolled in our Berkeley County Pre-K class.
BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE FOR YOUR SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN
If you have trouble taking your child to school and picking them up after, let Step Ahead Preschool help you out! We can help your child get on and off the bus, and they can stay with us until you get off work so you know that they are safe. INDIVIDUAL CLASSROOMS FOR DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS
You would not try to teach a five-year-old the same things as a three-year-old, so we divide our students into various classrooms to give them the individual, age-appropriate attention they need. Our students are divided up into four different classrooms with different goals for the year. We follow the standards for pre-k set out by Berkeley County, which the West Virginia Department of Education, Office of Early Learning outlines in its pamphlet on the framework for early learning standards.
EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONALS TO HELP YOUR CHILD LEARN
Our experienced childcare specialists can take care of your child when you have to go to work. We dedicate time to letting your children make friends and socialize while also helping them to learn and enforce basic knowledge they must know to begin school. If your child is struggling with learning the alphabet or numbers, do not worry! We give each child individual time and attention so that they will have special time to learn at their own pace.

At Step Ahead Preschool, we make every effort to celebrate important holidays and to celebrate the area we live in. We hold certain special events throughout the year like holiday parties. We post special events on our events calendar, and we send information home with each child.

STEP AHEAD PRESCHOOL HOURS OF OPERATIONS
Step Ahead Preschool is available Monday through Friday, from 6:30am to 5:30pm. Drop your child off before you go to work and, when you are done, you can pick them back up with the confidence that they were well taken care of.
