At Step Ahead Preschool, we believe that children in our care deserve individualized attention to help them learn successfully, Our four different classrooms divide our students by age, so you know that your child is being instructed and mastering important skills and concepts that will become necessary when they get older. BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE FOR TUSCARORA ELEMENTARY & EAGLE SCHOOL INTERMEDIATE
If your child attends Tuscarora Elementary or Eagle School Intermediate, they may be eligible for Step Ahead Preschool’s before and after school care program. In this program, we assist with getting your child on and off the bus, and we provide a safe, fun environment for them to work on homework or simply to play while waiting for you to pick them up after work. LEARNING KEY CONCEPTS IN GROUP 1: AGES 2-3
Science has proven that young children learn the fastest. At Step Ahead Preschool, we take advantage of this. In our youngest classroom, we help your children learn basic skills that they will need for the rest of their lives. We have group circle time, where we sing and tell stories, to get your child accustomed to participating in a group. We give them time to have free play and dedicated craft time, as well. In this first classroom, we put a strong emphasis on social skills like sharing and manners, and we begin to teach early learning skills like letters, colors, and shapes.
EXPANDING UPON THE BASICS IN GROUP 2: AGES 3-4
In our second classroom, we work on developing your child’s fine motor skills through activities and games. We begin to teach reading the calendar and learning parts of the weather. In group time, we continue to sing and tell stories, building upon what your child has learned previously. We expand upon the first group’s successes, continuing to teach the alphabet and numbers. Teacher-led activities in the classroom with age-appropriate, yet challenging crafts get your child thinking creatively.
BERKELEY COUNTY PRE-KINDERGARTEN: AGES 4-5
Through a collaboration we have with the Berkeley County Pre-K program, this classroom’s teacher uses a program designed to prepare children for kindergarten by offering a range of experiences based on early learning standards. Through a balance of activities, including large and small groups, indoor and outdoor play, quiet time, center times, teacher-led and planned activities and child-initiated activities, Berkeley County Pre-K uses Creative Curriculum. Step Ahead Pre-School does offer before and after care from 6:30am to 5:30pm for all children enrolled in Berkeley County Pre-K.
